The problem

KRAFTON Inc., the gaming giant behind PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, aimed to build a robust competitive ecosystem for aspiring players in their game. The objective was two-fold: to create a competitive series for up-and-coming PUBG players and to use that as a way of encouraging a broader range of gamers to engage competitively. The challenge was not just about numbers, but also about cultivating a healthy competitive environment for players looking to prove themselves in the scene.

PUBG NextPro: daily automated tournaments across EMEA

To achieve this, KRAFTON Inc. collaborated with Challengermode on a 7-month-long activation called PUBG NextPro. This grassroots circuit was designed to run daily, fully automated tournaments across the EMEA region. The tournament format was open, allowing casual players to compete alongside more seasoned competitors. Rewards were distributed through a region-wide leaderboard, calculated at the end of each month.Key features that contributed to the activation's success included automated match setup, real-time leaderboards, and an efficient prize distribution system—all of which were made possible through Challengermode’s robust platform.

The impact

The PUBG NextPro activation exceeded expectations. Over 11,000 unique competitors participated, many of whom were introduced to the competitive PUBG landscape for the first time. The event saw participants compete in more than 200 tournaments. With such high engagement, KRAFTON Inc. successfully fostered a healthier, more vibrant competitive gaming ecosystem for one of their largest player segments.
